Helping Investigators Find Answers

June 27, 2015

Well this week we had a multi-zone conference.  We had 4 zones or about 70 missionaries and we had a conference with the President of our mission and the assistants. It was a really great conference we talked a lot about using the Book of Mormon more in our lessons, not just with investigators but with all of the people that we teach. During the conference we also talked a lot about how important it is that when the investigators have questions about doctrine we shouldn´t just give them the answers.  We should help them find the answers through the Book of Mormon, inspired questions, etc. When we help them find the answers to their own questions, they understand everything a lot better and can have greater testimonies.

Our investigator, Nilda is learning a lot about the gospel and also remembering things that she had forgotten (because she was an old investigator of the church).  She has gone to church the past two weeks and I can tell she is already starting to be more happy in life.  Another thing that is so great to see, is how the ward is getting excited for her because she starting to go back to church again and that she is going to get baptized in a couple of weeks.  The majority of the ward already knows her because she went to church for a year straight. We are really excited that she wants to learn more about the gospel and she wants to change her life.

Well, hope you all have a great week,

Elder Rogers

An Amazing Week

June 20, 2015
Well this week we had changes and I am staying in my area and I have a new companion now, Elder Cruz.  Elder Cruz is from Columbia and is a really great person.  Right now I´m helping him become a financer.  He’s learning how to do all of the things that we do.
Well, because it was changes I drove the missionaries that are going home to the airport.  See the photo below of me and Elder Ashcraft (my second companion on the mission).  Also with changes we had to buy a lot of food because whenever we have new missionaries come in, we have some presentations and we also buy them some pizza and milanesas (like basically a chicken sandwich but thinner).

Last Sunday Nilda (an investigator) went to church and we were able to visit her the last couple of days.  Nilda went to church about every week for almost a year but couldn´t get baptized for some problems she was having.  But now she doesn´t have those problems and she really wants to get baptized, so we are all really excited for her and we hope that she can get baptized and stay firm in the church.
Today was a very spiritual day. I went to the temple this morning and while I was there, the members from Melo (my first area in the mission) were there because they have a trip every couple of months and I had no idea that they were going to be there, it was so great to be able to talk to them and also have a session with them as well.  Then at the temple I was able to get a lot of answers to the questions that I had.
This week was amazing,
Love you all,
Elder Rogers

I’m Driving!

Zone Conference

June 13, 2015

Well changes are this week and I´m staying in my area and I´m going to have a new companion.  I don´t know who it is yet, but I will find out tomorrow.  This change has gone by very fast-- by far my fastest change that I have had.

Well I never thought I was going to drive on my mission, but I did receive my license last week and I started driving yesterday.  So ya, I have to drive stick shift, which is very different than automatic.  Automatic is a lot easier, haha. But ya, I´m starting to get used to driving the stick and it is pretty crazy driving here because the majority of people don´t obey the traffic laws.

This week we had a zone conference and the main idea of the conference was to focus on working with members, I learned how to help the members share the gospel with other people and how we should work with them more when we have investigators. During the conference, we also talked a lot about the temple and how we should consecrate ourselves and try and do our best for the Lord and always think about other people.

Hope you all have a great week,

Elder Rogers

International Food Zone Activity

Making pancakes
 June 6, 2015

Me and Elder Bauer (one of the missionaries that I live with) cooked chocolate chip pancakes for everybody that lives in our house (8 people).  We even made maple syrup, because they don´t have maple syrup down here we used one of the maple syrup extracts that I had.  So ya—super good breakfast.

We had a big zone activity on Monday.  All of the missionaries in our zone cooked something from their country.  So I live the 4 people that are from the states, so we decided to make brownies and they were super delicious.  It was really cool to see food from all the different countries in the world and how almost always every type of food from all of the countries has something similar the food in the states but how we cook it differently, or we add some stuff, or we don´t put some things in.

Really good week I didn´t have a lot of time to proselyte, though because of all of the things that we had to do that were not planned.  But now that those things are done, hopefully we will be able to work more next week.

Love you all,

Elder Rogers
