Focus on the Atonement

September 21, 2015

Well right now we are working with a great investigator and his name is Humberto.  He is such a great guy and has so much faith in God in all of the things that he does. Humberto lived in Australia for a couple of years so he speaks really good English. It is pretty funny; during our lessons and when we are talking to him he talks, to me in Spanglish (half English and half Spanish).

Last week we went out with a bunch of the members and we all visited people that are less-active in the ward. It was amazing to go out and work with some of the members in the ward and the blessing that we saw this week was that a lot of people were at church this week. They said that haven`t had that many people come for a while.

This week we have been talking a lot about the atonement and the importance of sharing it with other people. Like it say in 2 Nephi 2:6-8 "How great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth." In every lesson that we have with members, investigators or anybody the atonement has been our focus for this week.

Have a great week,

Sincerely,

Elder Rogers

1st Week in San Jose

Me and my new companion Elder Leano
September 14, 2015

So we had transfers and now I am in San Jose.  It is a town of about 30,000 people (or so I have been told). We have two other elders in this area as well. My new companion is Elder LeaƱo.  He is from Bolivia.  It is pretty crazy because his cousin is serving in this mission.

Up to now I really like San Jose. It is a really calm place here.  It is a branch and about 50 people go to church every week. The members here are really awesome.   A couple of them work in the temple and go there once a week. It is pretty cool because when I first got here everybody wanted to know who the new elder was and where I came from. So I am really excited to work here in this area and there is a lot of work to be done as well.

We have a couple of little towns by the city that we live in, so we go and visit them when we can, but the only thing is they are pretty far away. We have to walk like an hour or so to get there, but on the way there there is bridge so I was able to take a couple of photos.

Love you all and hope you have a great week,

Elder Rogers

My Last Week as a Financer

September 5, 2015

Well this week was pretty awesome and crazy busy.  So yesterday something crazy happened.  The 3 elders and I went to a dinner with some people from Brazil. So when we got there we found out that only one of the 4 people who we ate with speaks Spanish. So it was so crazy because the lady that speaks Spanish didn´t translate for us. So we were trying to understand the best we could (Portuguese and Spanish are kind of similar languages). It was super funny because they kept on asking me all of these questions and I would kind of understand it, but not that much ha ha. Such a cool experience.  It reminded me of when I began the mission and could only understand some of the words that they were saying.

So this week we had a lesson with Nilda (a recent convert in my area) and she is so awesome.  Every time we visit her she always shocks me about a new story that she has about how she is applying the gospel in her life. A couple of days ago she told us about how she was having some problems with some things but she decided to just put faith in the Lord and hope that everything turns out well.

So something crazy is happening.  Starting next week, I´m leaving the offices and I´m not going to be a financer anymore. But I´m not really sad or anything. I really like being a financer, but I feel like it is time to leave. I mean, I have been here for 6 months. So I don´t know where I am going, but the next time I write you guys I´ll already be in my area. (So that means that my P-day will go back to Mondays.)

Love you guys hope you all have a great week,

Elder Rogers

Cold August Days; A Change is Coming

August 29, 2015

This change has gone by so fast I can hardly believe it! I can remember when I first got here, like 5 months ago and it doesn´t feel like it has been that long. I cannot believe that I am leaving my area in a week and a half.

A little update with Uruguay is it is starting to get hot again.  It has been kind of cold the last couple of months. It is kind of weird to think that we are in August and it is cold.

Well this week was pretty great.  Right now we have been working with a less active member and his family (who are not members). We have had some really good lessons with them, the last lesson we talked about the restoration and they really liked it and now they really want to learn more about the gospel.

Hope you all have a great week

One of the Greatest Weeks Yet!

August 22, 2015

So this week has been one of the greatest weeks that I have had on the mission. This week I was able to talk to a lot of missionaries about the vision of the mission. It has changed the way I have thought of the mission. I have been learning about how important it is that we help the ward and work with them. Right now we are focusing on working with our ward mission leader more.  We are verifying with him more frequently and informing him more about the people we are working with in our areas. Our ward mission leader is a really cool guy and he loves the missionaries.  We are so excited to work with him more and help the ward with their missionary work.

Lately there has been a lot of things going through my head on what I could do and changes that I can make in the way that I am working and how I can improve it and help the church grow stronger. In our ward, our bishop is so awesome.  He is always willing to help us and is always trying to help the ward to set goals.

Well, we went to the temple today and it was really awesome.  So almost all of the temple conferences are done with in our mission; we just have one left. But this week was an amazing week and I hope you guys have a great week as well.

Love you guys,

Elder Rogers
